Time for some comedy
The Captain Matchbox Whoopee Band were an Australian jug band that were active during the 1970s. The line-up consisted of brothers Jim and Mic Conway with a variety of other performers that changed regularly over the years. Although the band started off as a fun project while the brothers were at Art College they quickly became one of the most loved Australian bands of the '70s.
The Masochism Tango was originally recorded in 1959 for the studio album More of Tom Lehrer and the live album An Evening Wasted with Tom Lehrer. It is a parody of love songs, in particular the Tony Martin song Kiss Of Fire. This version has been given the Captain Matchbox treatment with the song being sung as an almost serious version but with appropriate vocal inflections relating to the various types of assault the singer is meant to be receiving and, as well as the musical backing, there are appropriate sound effects in the background that are used to their comedic extreme.
