Hajri Me Ta Dike [You Will Pay] is a reworking of the song Hajri Ma Te Dike Daje that was originally released by Esma Redžepova on her 1965 album Esma. It is about a young girl who is cursing her mother for marrying her off to an older man in a village where they work too hard for too little food. This is an incredible, moving performance with Dunja‘s magnificent voice wringing every last drop of emotion from the melody of this beautiful gypsy song where you don’t need to understand the lyrics to know how deeply in despair she is, and the slow, melancholy music only adds to the sorrow.
