Time for some comedy.
The Rutles are a band that was created as a parody of the music and career of The Beatles, originally for Eric Idle's TV series Rutland Weekend Television, in 1975. They were later featured in a mockumentary in 1978 called All You Need is Cash. They have released 2 CDs, the soundtrack of All You Need is Cash, in 1978, and, in 1996, Archeology. A 2nd film was made in 2003 called The Rutles 2: Can't Buy Me Lunch. Since then Neil Innes, who founded The Rutles with Eric Idle and who wrote all the music, has formed The Rutles as a real touring band. The music recordings for the 1st CD the line-up was Neil Innes on guitar, keyboards and vocals on the John Lennon inspired songs; Ollie Halsall on guitar, keyboards and vocals on the Paul McCartney inspired songs; Ricky Fataar on guitar, bass, sitar, tabla and vocals on the George Harrison inspired songs; John Halsey on percussion and vocals on the Ringo Starr inspired songs; and Andy Brown on bass.
The Rutles were the pre-fab four and a legend in their own lunchtime. They consisted of Ron Nasty (Neil Innes) on guitar and vocals; Dirk McQuickly (Eric Idle) on bass and vocals; Stig O'Hara (Ricky Fataar) on guitar and vocals; and Barry Wom (John Halsey), full name Barrington Womble, on drums and vocals. They were originally formed in Liverpool in 1959 and, after a brief sojourn in Hamburg in 1960, they took over the world and became the most successful music act in the world ever.
Hold My Hand was originally released as part of the soundtrack of the 1978 movie All You Need Is Cash. It is a parody of The Beatles song I Want to Hold Your Hand and is a love song where the singer informs his beloved that her date is outside with someone else and that he is completely in love with her. In the Rutles universe it was released in 1963 as a single and on the album With The Rutles, it is also 1 of the songs that The Rutles performed on The Ed Sullivan Show during their first tour of the USA.
