Phased Serialism is the new single from stephpar. It is an experimental process piece that combines the 12-tone serialism of Schoenberg and the phased music of Steve Reich. It takes the 12 notes of the Western chromatic scale played in a fixed order and repeated, in the same order, played by different instruments, each playing at a different tempo until all instruments finish on the starring note. This performance was recorded using the strings voice on the Caustic Android app, played by 4 voices on 3 different octaves. With each voice playing the same series of notes at a different speed causes an interesting interplay of tones and rhythms, creating a complex piece out of very simple elements.
