They Might Be Giants (TMBG) are a Brooklyn, New York, USA based alternative rock band. They were formed in 1982 by John Flansburgh and John Linnell. They are probably best known for writing and performing the song Boss of Me which was used as the main theme song for the TV series Malcolm in the Middle. They have released 16 studio albums, including some albums of children's songs. They took their name from the 1971 movie They Might Be Giants which starred George C. Scott and Joane Woodward. They first started recording when Linnell broke his wrist in a bicycle accident and Flansburgh's apartment was burgled which prevented them from performing live. These early recordings were made using a telephone answering machine (a primitive form of voice mail) and then advertised the number as Dial-A-Song. In 2000 Dial-A-Song was moved to the Internet and replaced by a podcast in 2006 after having featured over 500 distinct songs and variations.
Birdhouse In Your Soul was the first single taken from the 1989 album, Flood. It is the most successful single from They Might Be Giants. It tells the story of a blue nightlight, shaped like a canary, from the viewpoint of the nightlight.
