U-Roy is a Jamaican Deejay and toaster. His birth name was Ewart Beckford but a younger relative was unable to pronounce his 1st name and so he became U-Roy. He started Deejaying in 1961 but it wasn't until 1969 that he started recording. U-Roy wasn't the 1st toaster, nor was he the 1st to record, but he was the 1st of the Deejays to dominate the Jamaican music scene, holding the top 3 spots in the Jamaican charts for a month in 1970, which lead to the explosion of toasting which whould later lead onto the birth of rap in New York.
Heartland Reggae is the movie made about the Bob Marley organised One Love Peace Concert that was held in Kingston, Jamaica on 22 April, 1978. This video is U-Roy performing the songs Natty Don’t Fear and Natty Rebel, that were included in the film.
