The Periodic Table Song was originally released as a single in 2013. It is basically a listing of the 118 chemical elements, with a little extra information, sung to the tune of Jacques Offenbach‘s Galop Infernal, better known as The Can-Can, from the 1858 opera Orphée aux Enfers [Orpheus in the Underworld]. This is the updated version from 2018 that includes all 118 elements that are currently known, and includes 4 new elements that have been discovered since the original release of the song. While the idea of this song goes back to Tom Lehrer‘s The Elements from 1959, but that song uses a different song, the Major-General’s Song from The Priates of Penzance by Gilbert and Sullivan, and only lists the elements up to nobelium, number 102, and the rest of the song is also very different.
