The Rise of Estrogenia was originally performed in 2017 at the University of North Texas. It is the story of the feminist superhero Estrogenia, her origins, and her eventual fight with the Nasty Orange Monster. It is a concerto for Jazz voice and harp in 3 movements, entitled: I. Rebirth; II. While You Were Asleep; and III. The Nasty Orange Monster. The first 2 movements are standard classical Jazz pieces with pop and folk influences thrown in for added interest, but the 3rd movement adds some experimental elements in with a light dose of humour. The whole piece is based around Anna‘s great voice and her masterful harp playing. She is joined on stage by the rest of the Anna Jalkéus Group and a University of North Texas Student Orchestra. This is a recording of the debut performance of the piece in Voertman Hall at the University of North Texas, in the USA, on 20 March, 2017.
