Smile was originally released as an instrumental as part of the soundtrack of the 1936 Charlie Chaplin movie Modern Times, and was first released as a song by Nat King Cole as a single in 1954. It tells the listener to see the good in life, even when bad things happen, it will always get better, and if you keep smiling it will be more bearable. This is a beautiful arrangement for 5 wonderful voices that work together perfectly. The girls not only sing the melody expertly, they also give perfect expression to the feeling of hope that the song engenders making even the most down person feel that life is worth living and everything will turn out well, and how could anyone not smile watching the delightful introduction to this performance? It is also interesting to notice the poster in the background that says I’m not here to be average, I’m here to be awesome, which is not something these girls need to be reminded of as they are always awesome, in both the modern and original meanings of the word.
