Tired is the new single from Liv. It is about life as viewed by a child from a less than ideal home. The lyrics, the music and the images all combine in this video to produce a bleak glimpse that has a feel of horror movies, make even more horrific by not using the supernatural but the threat coming from what should be a source of safety and one that way too many children have to live with each day. The vocals really conveys the emotion of the protagonist in a way that you can feel her pain in your own heart, the foreboding of the music adds to this impression. The images add to this impression by making it look so real, by the use of different visual styles with the general impression of a collection of home movies, the colours vary from grainy black and white, through the washed out shades of an old Polaroid picture, to the understated colours of Super 8 film, added to lighting, often too bright and from the wrong angles, that is designed to give the video the look of real life rather than the polished look of standard video presentations. Take note that the video starts with a long period of silence, about 40 seconds, which can appear to modern audiences as a technical problem but is used to great artistic effect, as with early home movies that did not have a sound track.
