Time for some comedy.
Monty Python are a British comedy group consisting of Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones, and Michael Palin. Jones and Palin met as part of the Oxford Review at Oxford University. Chapman, Cleese and Idle met in the Cambridge University Footlights Review, which resulted in their touring the USA and meeting Gilliam in New York City.
The Pythons wrote and performed on various different television shows with The Frost Report being the 1st show to use the talents of all 6 members. The BBC offered Chapman and Cleese their own TV series and, after a number of chance happenings, all 6 members were again brought together to create Monty Python's Flying Circus which first aired in 1969. They produced 45 episodes over 4 seasons and made 5 feature length movies, as well as a number of albums, books, games, theatre shows and TV specials.
After the original Python series had finished the Pythons all worked on various projects, often collaborating with, or including, other members of the team. They are generally credited with reshaping British comedy and have influenced many comedians that have emerged since.
The Lumberjack Song originally appeared in Episode 9 of the first series of Monty Python’s Flying Circus that was originally broadcast on the BBC on 14 December, 1969. The song is about a Lumberjack with some unusual hobbies, ones that are not normally associated with the rugged lifestyle of an outdoorsman. This is the original TV version but it has been performed many times, as it is one of the most popular of their songs.
