Veronica Rotin is a young Maltese and Australian singer. She was born in Malta and then lived in Melbourne, Australia for a few years before returning to Malta. She is another of the incredibly talented singers to emerge from the legendary La Voix Academy in Malta under the tutelage of the amazing Gillian Attard. At the age of 9 years, Veronica made it to the finals of the Italian TV talent show Io Canto (I Sing) in 2013. The following year she entered the World Festival Association's (WAF) XI International contest for young talents Lake Pearls, held in FYR Macedonia, in which she not only won her category but was also awarded the Grand Prix for the whole event and has been invited to perform at next summer's WAF event in Russia. She performed as a part of the interval act at the 2014 Junior Eurovision Song Contest (JESC) in Malta.
Something’s Got a Hold On Me was originally recorded by Etta James for her 1962 album, Etta James, and was also released as a single. It is a song about being in love for the first time. In this version Veronica gives greater emphasis to the soul and gospel aspects of the song and sounds like she is actually enjoying the feeling that has a hold on her, making this version, by far, my favourite, over the Etta James and Christina Aguilera versions. This video was recorded from the Xarabank show on Maltese TV.
You can follow Veronica on Facebook, on her sister's YouTube channel, and on her own YouTube channel. You can buy her recording for the Italian TV talent show Io Canto on iTunes.
