Colorful Danger, Safe Grey is an ensemble piece written by Mirek last year. It is based on the story Our Adventure from the book Tales from Outer Suburbia by Shaun Tan. It is an instrumental piece that tells the story of a child’s naive adventure through suburbia trying to find the end of the world. It is a difficult journey because every street is the same, safe, grey. When the child becomes disillusioned due to the artificial nature of the neighbourhood he reaches the edge of his world, and lets his legs dangle with the world at his feet.
The ensemble is conducted by Pieter Vandermeiren, with Robin Van Heghe on violin; Jolien Deley on cello; Bram Decroix on double bass; Tille Van Gastel on Flute; Hannelore Vermeir on clarinet; Diechje Minne on horn; Anne Zeuwts on harp; Lukas Huisman on piano; and Axel Dewulf on timpani.
