Queen are a British band who were amongst the most successful bands ever and consisted of Freddie Mercury (Farrokh Bulsara) on lead vocals and piano, Brian May on guitar and vocals, John Deacon on bass, and Roger Taylor on drums and vocals. Queen started playing music that was heavily influenced by Heavy Metal and Progressive Rock but quickly broadened their style to cover many different genres. Their first 4 albums are regularly considered to be amongst the greatest albums ever produced, after this their recording became more focussed on singles and then became even more successful. After Freddie Mercury died in 1991 and John Deacon retired in 1997, the remaining members continued with occasional performances using other performers.
Bohemian Rhapsody was originally released on Queen‘s 4th album A Night at the Opera. It is one of the biggest selling singles of all time. Originally, the record company did not want to release it as a single so Queen, and their management, passed a copy of the tape to Capital Radio DJ Kenny Everett who played the song on his radio show which created enough demand that the record company were forced to release it as a single. The band then created a video clip to promote the single on various TV music shows. This clip is generally considered to be the 1st modern music video and to have ushered in the MTV age.
