Anastasiya Petryk (also known as Nastya) is a young Ukrainian singer who first came to public attention when she supported her older sister Viktoriya on the TV show Ukraine's Got Talent and the judges suggested that the 2 sisters perform a duet when she was only 8 years old. Since then she won the younger age group, 8 to 12 years, at the 2010 New Wave Junior competition, with her sister winning the older age group, and has been asked back as a guest performer every year since. At the completion of the 2011 Junior Eurovision Song Contest (JESC) Nastya was the early favourite to win the 2012 contest simply because she was now old enough to compete, this was even before applications to represent Ukraine had been opened. Nastya represented Ukraine in the 2012 JESC and won the competition with the song Nebo. She received the equal highest number of maximum votes, having received 12 points from 8 of the 12 countries and the highest ever average points (10.5 points from each country [countries award 12 points to the song they like best and 10 points to the next best song]).
Rika-Pechal’ [River-Sadness] was originally sung by the Ukrainian singer Natalia Buchynska.
For the 2nd night of the 2014 New Wave contest the theme was “Hit of Your Country” and the contestants sang a duet with a popular star. Vika chose to sing this song and picked her favourite singer, her younger sister Nastya, to sing with. It is clear that Viktoria made the best possible choice of singing partner as the 2 sisters’ voices work together excellently and they have a long history of singing beautifully together.
The song is about 2 lovers who have parted and are now “by the shores of loneliness.”
The Petryks have sped up the song slightly and given it a lot more energy in the process. You can also hear that Anastasiya‘s voice is maturing beautifully as is her vocal technique and stage presence.
The audience obviously enjoy the performance and Viktoria received the maximum 77 points (11 points from each judge) for this perfect performance. This left Vika 1 point short of the leader of New Wave 2014 putting her into 2nd place at the end of the 2nd day of competition.
This performance bodes well for when Anastasiya is able to compete, having received a perfect score 4 years before she is old enough to be a contestant. You can follow Anastasiya on her Website, on Facebook, and on vKontakte.
