With Doc Neeson being the subject of Australian Story on the ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation) it seems appropriate to post this iconic song.
The Angels were an Australian rock band that were internationally successful in the late 1970's and the 1980's. They had started in Adelaide in 1970 as the Moonshine Jug & String Band, playing skifle, jazz and blues. In 1974 they changed their music to 50s style rock'n'roll and their name to The Keystone Angels. Then, on obtaining a major record deal, they again changed their name, this time to The Angels in 1975 and played a much heavier and faster style of rock. Over the years the line-up has changed considerably but at the time this video was recorded, in 1988, the line-up was: (Bernard) Doc Neeson on vocals; Bob Spencer on guitar; Rick Brewster on guitar; Jim Hillbun on bass; and Brent Eccles on drums.
Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again was originally released as a single in 1976 but it wasn’t until a live version was released in 1988 that the song became a hit. In between these 2 releases the song had picked up a chant in reply to the title question of “No way, Get f***ed, F*** off!” This is probably the best known, and most popular, crowd response in Australian rock history. It was first used during a live performance in Mount Isa, Queensland and, apparently, started off in a Blue Light Disco (a supposedly alcohol and drug free disco run by serving Police officers). The chant has now become almost compulsory for all Australians whenever they hear the song (and sometime just mentioning the title will draw this response). This is the video that appeared on the DVD The Angels – Wasted Sleepless Nights: Definitive Greatest Hits.
