Anastasiya Petryk (also known as Nastya) is a young Ukrainian singer who first came to public attention when she supported her older sister Viktoriya on the TV show Ukraine's Got Talent and the judges suggested that the 2 sisters perform a duet when she was only 8 years old. Since then she won the younger age group, 8 to 12 years, at the 2010 New Wave Junior competition, with her sister winning the older age group, and has been asked back as a guest performer every year since. At the completion of the 2011 Junior Eurovision Song Contest (JESC) Nastya was the early favourite to win the 2012 contest simply because she was now old enough to compete, this was even before applications to represent Ukraine had been opened. Nastya represented Ukraine in the 2012 JESC and won the competition with the song Nebo. She received the equal highest number of maximum votes, having received 12 points from 8 of the 12 countries and the highest ever average points (10.5 points from each country [countries award 12 points to the song they like best and 10 points to the next best song]).
Also in 2010 Vika entered the TV talent competition, Ukraina Mae Talant 2! [Ukraine Has Talent 2] and sang the Tina Turner song Simply the Best, with her family supporting her behind the scenes. After her performance Nastya was brought out on stage and the sisters sing the chorus of the Joan Jet song I Love Rock and Roll, which caused the judges to suggest that the sisters sing a duet in the next round. Most 13 year olds would be a little disappointed after entering a competition on their own to have the judges suggest that they sing with their 8 year old sister but not Vika, her reaction is like it is the greatest thing ever suggested. Judging from the expressions on their faces it is difficult to decide whether Anastasiya is prouder when the judges are praising Vika or if Viktoriya is prouder when they are praising Nastya. These 2 sisters are clearly each others biggest fans.
Cherniy Kot [Black Cat] is the song that the Petryk Sisters sang together in the Semi-Final of Ukraina Mae Talant 2! in March, 2010. Unfortunately the sisters went no further in this competition but we are, at least, left with this great performance that introduced an incredible talent, Anastasiya, and the Petryk Sisters to the world (the sisters had performed together on Christmas Eve, 2008, performing Viktoriya‘s song Matrosy, in the Melodiya Dvukh Serdets [Melody of Two Hearts] concert; but not many people outside of the Ukraine were aware of this performance).
